Hi all, I am using acer aspire 5310 notebook. few days ago I installed UBUNTU but now I want windows operating system. Problem is that when I am trying to boot windows XP install CD it takes but after few minutes it says there is no hard disk. What I want to know and I hope anyone can answer this question is how I get rid of UBUNTU and restore windows XP or VISTA? Do I have to format or what and how? If anyone let me know what to do then it will be a great help. Thanks.

There is restore factory settings feature in acer note books,
But it needs system CD, did your system came with system Cd, if not user have to create it .
Please let me know if you have this.
if not then , got to BIOS & find if D2D recovery is enabled.
after your answer all these we can proceed further.
My system doesn’t came with system Cd because they don’t provide cd and D2D recovery is enabled.

yes my computer came with orginal visa and i also try to install but it’s not worked.
as i told earlier there is a restore factory settings feature in acer notebooks.
if you have not deleted the hidden partition , then your notebook will be ok in minutes but if the partition is not present , then it will be tough.
press alt + 10 , continously when booting your computer.
if your computer statrts with the restore screen , then you have to follow on screen commands , & as you said d2d recovery is enabled , i hope – you can restore your note book to the original state.
now if alt + 10 command does not work, then it mean than your master boot record has been replaced.
please let me know if the process workenad d, if not try to boot your notebook with linux distributin & find the hidden partition PQ SERVICE .

yes u can install ভিস্তা ও উবুন্টু. just run উবুন্টু cd and install but not in same drive…….then enjoy……..
I SOLVED MY PROBLEM THIS WAY………
This was with regards to the issue that you are facing while installing Windows XP.
In order to install Windows Xp on this laptop, you need to do some settings in the BIOS settings.
1. Turn on the laptop. After turning you will see an Acer logo screen. Press F2 on this screen.
2. You will be in the BIOS settings. Select Main from the options on the top side.
3. Search for SATA mode. SATA mode is usually selected to AHCI mode. Change this option to IDE mode.
4. Click on boot option on the top side and select the first boot device as cd rom drive.
5. Press F10 and exit from the BIOS and go ahead doing the installation of Windows XP.
